Frederick J. McElveen, M.D.



An area native who founded our practice in 1975, Dr. McElveen is dedicated to his field and his patients.

Dr. McElveen obtained his M.D. from MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed his dermatology residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Following two years of U.S. Naval Service at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina, he returned home to establish Palmetto Dermatology.

He is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatological Surgery, and the South Carolina Medical Association. He has privileges at Lexington Medical Center.



Katherine C. Thompson, M.D.



Dr. Thompson received her undergraduate degree from Towson State University in Towson, Maryland. She received her medical degree from MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Thompson completed her residency program in Dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

She joined Palmetto Dermatology in 1994 and holds professional memberships in the Southern Medical Association, the South Carolina Medical Association, and the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Thompson has privileges at Lexington Medical Center.



Jeffrey K. Smith, M.D.



Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree in engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. He received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Smith completed his residency program in Dermatology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

He joined Palmetto Dermatology in 2008 and holds professional memberships in the American Academy of Dermatology, the Georgia Society of Dermatologists, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. Dr. Smith has privileges at Lexington Medical Center.
